LUCKY 15 SELECTIONS

SOMEHOW (Chester 2.40) can strike in the Cheshire Oaks for trainer Aidan O’Brien and Ryan Moore. Fresh from his 1-2-3 in Sunday’s 1000 Guineas, O’Brien saddles the twice-raced Fastnet Rock filly, who won heavy-ground fillies’ maiden on her seasonal debut at Leopardstown early last month. This daughter of Oaks-winning mare Alexandrova appreciated the step up in trip to 1m2f and this extra furlong today should hold no fears. The good to soft ground should be ideal and she will take a bit of beating.

SILVER CONCORDE (Chester 3.10), who won the Champion Bumper at the Cheltenham Festival in 2014, has always looked like he would make up into a Cup horse and he holds a fair chance in today’s competitive renewal of the Chester Cup. Dermot Weld’s runner was favourite for the Irish Cesarewitch last October and while beaten just over three lengths, bounced back to win the valuable Tote November Handicap at Leopardstown. Though last of 14 in the Supreme Novices’ Hurdle at Cheltenham, he was reportedly lame and this classy performer has had plenty of time to get over that.

PORT MELON (Newton Abbot 4.45) won a three-mile novice’s handicap chase at Kempton for Paul Nicholls in November, but after a couple of subsequent blow-par runs, bounced back to something like his best form over that same course and distance last time, when running Loose Chips to a length. He goes up 1lb to a mark of 139 for this 3m1½f handicap chase, and while carrying top weight, he should give Sam Twiston-Davies a good spin.

CHAMPAGNE TO GO (Wetherby 5.30) makes a quick reappearance after landing her first win under Rules, having previously been bought for £20,000 following victory in her second start in an Irish point-to-point. While still only four, she has plenty of size and strength to think that she might have a future over hurdles and caught the eye when scoring here by six lengths in a bumper two weeks ago. She makes her hurdling debut for Kim Bailey over 2m3½f and it may well be a winning one, providing she is less keen to get on with things than when scoring last time.
