The transfer window has been open for 11 days and Stanley Accrington is starting to feel the chill - especially from Ukraine

Hot football transfer gossip: Chelsea's £65m swoop for Teixeira and Bacca

There is a quite a lot of tabling going on in today’s newspapers – and mercifully none of it involves Gareth Bale, Cristiano Ronaldo or Manchester United.

But the biggest tables are clearly at revitalised Chelsea.

According to the Daily Star, the Blues have put £30m in hard cash on one of their tables and told Shakhtar Donetsk it’s theirs – as long as they give them attacking midfielder Alex Teixeira in return.

The 26-year-old has scored 26 goals from 26 matches this season but obviously Chelsea thought a £26m bid would have been taking the symmetry a bit far.

Chelsea must have one of those drop-leaf table extensions because, according to the Express, they have also slammed another £30m of reddies on it for the Milan striker Carlos Bacca, who, at 29, has ironically not scored 29 goals from 29 matches this season.

Of course, they could be putting this currency on tables in Donetsk and Milan…

Flights from Ukraine could be rammed with footballers en route to the Premier League. – and planes tend to have only small tables.

That notwithstanding, Everton are ready to make a £21m bid for Dinamo Kiev winger Andriy Yarmolenko, who, playing the game, is 26.

But, reports the Express, the Toffees will only be able to table this cash once they have completed the sale of Steven Naismith to Norwich. To square the round peg, Naismith is 29…

Meanwhile, in the red half of the city, Liverpool have “sealed” the £11m signing of Brazil winger Alexandre Pato from Corinthians – reports the Star.

Pato is 26…

Pato is set to become part of the 35-man squad that manager Jurgen Klopp has told the Mirror he would need for a Champions League campaign – which might not happen for 26 years.

Newcastle can concentrate on the league now they have got the FA Cup out of the way.

And who better to spearhead a return to the Premier League next season than West Brom striker Saido Berahino, who, at 22, still has four years until he is 26.

The Mail reports that the Magpies have renewed their £18m interest in the Hawthorns bench warmer who scored against Championship strugglers Bristol City at the weekend.

And with his time on the pitch for Swansea becoming less and less, midfielder Jonjo Shelvey could be next to join the sinking ship Magpies – for £10m if Sky Sports are correct.

Shelvey will be 26 in three years’ time.
