Hot Football Transfer Gossip: Adebayor, Teixeira, Matic, Gomis, Bale

It’s been a tough few months for Emmanuel Adebayor, who has been without a club since his release by Tottenham and forced to subsist on the measly £100,000 a week that Spurs are still paying him. But cometh the window, cometh lots of teams that are desperate for a proven Premier League striker - none more so than goal-shy Crystal Palace.

Eagles boss Alan Pardew revealed the names of two strikers he is interested in signing this month in the Guardian. One is Adebayor, the other is another former Arsenal reject legend Nicklas Bendtner. The concern for Palace fans is that those are two players you’d expect to be Pardew’s last resorts on deadline day, rather than his most promising leads with 10 days still to go.

“With some players, doing a permanent transfer can be risky,” admitted the manager, who meant, “With Adebayor, doing a permanent transfer can be risky.” But maybe not as risky as going into February with Marouane Chamakh leading the line (what is it with Palace and Arsenal rejects?).

The battle for Shakhtar Donetsk playmaker Alex Teixiera is hotting up, with BBC Sport’s European football expert Andy Brassell claiming that Liverpool’s £24.5m bid for the Brazilian is some way short of his club’s £39m valuation of the player.

Fellow suitors Chelsea should be able to rustle up that sum easily enough, especially if the Daily Mail are right in predicting that Nemanja Vidic is set to leave the club. The Blues apparently “face an uphill battle” to keep the midfielder, who is “considering a change in his career”.

There is more positive news on another out-of-form Serbian, Branislav Ivanovic, who the Express says has been offered a one-year contract extension at Stamford Bridge on his existing wage of £120,000. Wonder how much they would have offered him if he was actually playing well.

The Sun reports that Newcastle have made a £7m bid for “wantaway” Swansea striker Bafetimbi Gomis, who possibly wants to move to the north-east because he can’t live without his former colleague and soulmate Jonjo Shelvey.

However, the Mapgies are said by the Guardian to have given up on signing Andros Townsend because Tottenham want too much money (£14m) for him. Spurs might lower their price if they ever get the chance to take up their first refusal option on Gareth Bale, as reported by the Mirror.

Finally, if you’re wondering why there is no Manchester United Hot Football Transfer Gossip today, it’s because the Mirror claims that all transfers at the club are “on hold” amid increasing uncertainty over manager Louis van Gaal’s future. Let’s hope the situation is resolved soon, or some of us will have nothing to write out.
