Hot Football Transfer Gossip: Bale ‘wants to quit Real Madrid and join Man Utd’

It’s always a boon for Hot Football Transfer Gossip when Gareth Bale has a slightly dodgy game in La Liga. Because that’s all it takes for the English media to start to linking him with a move to Manchester United.

And so it goes this morning, as the Sun have pounced on the Welshman’s below-par performance against Villareal as evidence that he is desperately unhappy in the Spanish capital and would love to swap Madrid for Manchester.

Bale is reportedly “unhappy” with Real boss Zinedine Zidane for not fulfilling some “promises” he made to him. We’re not sure actually what was promised - maybe it was a central striking role or maybe it was regular back rubs and cups of steaming welsh tea and crumpets on demand.

But whatever it was, being substituted after 70 minutes for Lucas Vasquez - as Bale was in the 1-1 draw against Villareal - surely wasn’t part the deal.

The Sun says Bale was “bemused” at being replaced by Vasquez, a player he had barely even heard of, especially as Karim Benzema and Bale’s nemesis Cristiano Ronaldo stayed on the pitch.

And the best thing is that, when it’s Ronaldo who’s subbed off next time, the Sun can just link him with a move to Old Trafford instead.

In further encouraging news for the Red Devils, the Express reports that AC Milan are willing to take the “new Gareth Bale” Memphis Depay off their hands.

As you have probably heard there are some rich Chinese men in the process of buying the Serie A giants and they are preparing to offer the Dutch flop a £24m “escape route” in January. They’d quite like to sign Harry Kane and Cesc Fabregas too, apparently.

Cesc, however, has revealed on Sky Sports that he never for a moment considered leaving Chelsea in the summer. It might not have actually been up to you though, Cesc.

Arsene Wenger, meanwhile, has said that he wishes he signed Chelsea’s Diego Costa from Atletico Madrid in 2014, reports the Telegraph. Presumably he also wishes he bought Luis Suarez from Ajax in 2011 and Lionel Messi from Newell’s Old Boys in 2000.

Elsewhere, Claudio Ranieri has revealed that alleged Man Utd target Danny Drinkwater does not have a buyout clause in his contract (Leicester Mercury), Yaya Toure’s dad has begged Pep Guardiola to give his son another chance at Manchester City (Sun) and David Moyes has revealed he turned down the chance to sign Emmanuel Adebayor for Sunderland this summer (ESPN). It was nothing to do with him drinking whiskey though (Adebayor, not Moyes).
