Gossip: Chelsea 'target £50m Rose', Barcelona 'want Eriksen', West Ham 'quoted £36m for Carvalho'

Rose, Sanchez and Carvalho: On the move?
Rose, Sanchez and Carvalho: On the move?

When Danny Rose decided to wear a maroon hoodie and sell his soul to the Sun about how annoyed he is with Tottenham, he surely knew there would be consequences. And there are.

  • Fined two weeks wages

  • Dissed by the fans (and Gary Neville)

  • Er… Applauded by his team-mates

  • Um… Earns £50m move to Chelsea

Oh. So most of the consequences were GOOD. And let that be a lesson to you.

The Sun follows up on its explosive interview with the Spurs left-back by revealing that Rose received a “hero’s welcome” from the Tottenham dressing room after the comments were published.

Not only that, Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy could now be willing to offload the 27-year-old to a club that will pay him the salary he believes he deserves.

Manchester United and Chelsea are both keen, but the Sun reckons the Blues are “more likely to make a bid” before the transfer window SLAMS SHUT on 31 August.

It’s almost enough to persuade Tottenham’s other key players to sell their soul to the Sun too. Christian Eriksen, for instance, could end up at Barcelona if he plays his cards right.

The Express says the Catalan giants are “in talks” to sign the Danish playmaker and are poised to make a £54m bid for him as part of their attempts to spend £200m very quickly.

That would certainly be good news for Liverpool, whose chances of retaining Philippe Coutinho appear to remain fairly decent, especially as the Sun claims that Barca could not afford to sign both him and Dortmund’s Ousmane Dembele, for whom a £90m bid has been rejected.

Record West Ham bid

Meanwhile, there are a confusing variety of stories claiming that a) Kylian Mbappe is definitely NOT going to sign for Paris Saint-Germain for £160m (Goal) and that b) Kylian Mbappe definitely IS going to sign for Paris Saint-Germain for £160m (Sun).

There are more of the latter variety, actually. So that must mean he IS. Or, alternatively, is not.

West Ham’s attempt to mix it with the big boys is getting a bit scary, with Sporting Lisbon reportedly demanding £36m for their midfielder William Carvalho after the Hammers lodged a initial club record bid of £27m.

But the Mirror says Slaven Bilic has “not been put off”, and Irons representatives are currently in Portugal trying to “thrash out a deal” for the 25-year-old. Which probably means they have prepared a glitzy PowerPoint presentation on the merits of Robert Snodgrass and tried to tempt Sporting into taking him in part-exchange.

Plucky Arsenal have made another contract offer to Alexis Sanchez, with the Mail claiming the Gunners have tabled a £300,000-a-week deal that would make the Chilean the Premier League’s highest paid player.

Hopefully Mesut Ozil doesn’t read that story, because the Sun says he is on the verge of accepting a measly £225,000-a-week deal to remain at the Emirates. Far fewer clubs are trying to buy him though, to be fair.

Elsewhere, Juventus are set to offer Liverpool £23m for their overhead-kick scoring German midfielder Emre Can (Mirror), Real Madrid have held “secret talks” with Juve about the potential signing of Argentine forward Paulo Dybala (Don Balon) and Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has said that if his Chelsea counterpart Antonio Conte is so worried about the size of his squad, he should call back some of his loanees (Times). Looooolz Arsene!!
