Hot Football Transfer Gossip: Depay for sale, Tottenham in double French swoop

Who wants Memphis Depay? That’s the subject line of an email that Manchester United have just spammed the rest of the world’s football clubs with, as they seek to offload the disappointing Dutchman to anyone who will take him.

The Sunday Mirror reports that chairmen in England and on the continent have been “sounded out” to see if they fancy taking Memphis at a “knockdown price” at the end of the season. According to our calculations, based on the winger’s original transfer fee of £25m, his age, the standard of his displays at Old Trafford and this rap video he once appeared in, his new value should be somewhere around the £34.99 mark.

Another disappointing Dutchman, Louis van Gaal, will also reportedly be leaving Old Trafford this summer despite reaching the FA Cup final. The Sunday Express reveals “exclusively” that Jose Mourinho will be announced as LVG’s successor “within the next two weeks”, although it’s hard to get as excited as the Express wants us to be, because we’ve already read this story 300 times in various forms over the past three months.

Mourinho may or may not have Portuguese sensation Renato Sanches at his disposal next season, with the Sunday Times reporting that United face competition from Paris Saint-Germain, Real Madrid and Manchester City for the teenager’s signature. United’s “hesitance” to pay Benfica £46.8m for the 18-year-old in January has apparently given other clubs the chance to snatch him, although on the plus side the asking price has since dropped to a mere £39m.

United have also allegedly been “rocked”, in a bad way, by Tottenham’s £16m swoop for Lille midfielder Sofiane Boufal. The Express says Arsenal, Chelsea and Everton are also interested in the 22-year-old Moroccan, but he would prefer to join Spurs, who are in “advanced talks” with the French club about a transfer fee.

Tottenham also appear to be in pole position to sign another Ligue 1 hotshot, with the Mirror reporting that Mauricio Pochettino is close to sealing a £23.5m deal for Alexandre Lacazette. There aren’t many Premier League clubs that haven’t been linked with the Lyon striker this season, but the Mirror seems to think he “looks certain” to opt for a move to White Hart Lane, where he can link up (on the bench) with his old mate Clinton N'Jie.

Elsewhere, Leicester goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel is a £15m target for Barcelona (Sun on Sunday), Crystal Palace are eyeing up 20-year-old Wolves defender Dominic Iorfa (also the Sun) and new Chelsea manager Antonio Conte wants to sign on-loan Inter Milan striker Stefan Jovetic (Daily Star Sunday). He’ll probably change his mind when someone informs him that Jovetic is actually a Manchester City player who has already flopped in the Premier League.
