Gossip: Liverpool 'target Keane to replace £30m Sakho', Everton 'want Lanzini', Rodriguez 'rejected Chelsea'

Keane in for Sakho, James turns down Chelsea and Lanzini a Toffee?
Keane in for Sakho, James turns down Chelsea and Lanzini a Toffee?

Mamadou Sakho is a funny lad. He loves Snapchat, he hates punctuality and, when he gets to chance to play it, he is actually pretty good at football despite looking like he shouldn’t be. And here’s another interesting fact about the French defender: He’s worth £30m.

Despite him making just eight appearances in the past year – all of them for Crystal Palace – the Mail reports that Liverpool are aiming to make a massive profit on the player they signed from Paris Saint-German for £18m in 2013, and then discarded.

And it’s all because of those eight appearances – which were so accomplished that Sakho was nominated for the Eagles’ player of the year award (admittedly, the competition was not strong).

Whether Palace can afford to make Sakho’s loan deal permanent is uncertain, given his increased price tag. (Plus the fact they may be wary of £30m Liverpool misfits after already signing Christian Benteke last summer.)

But even if the Eagles don’t pay it, the Reds are confident someone will, and Jurgen Klopp has already reportedly earmarked the cash to fund the signing of Burnley’s Michael Keane and/or Southampton’s Virgil van Dijk.

Across Stanley Park, Everton are flexing their financial muscles in the direction of West Ham playmaker Manuel Lanzini, says the Mirror.

Toffees manager Ronald Koeman is said to be “searching for creativity” as he prepares for the departure of Ross Barkley, who is wanted by Tottenham and Arsenal after failing to agree a new contract at Goodison Park. The Hammers have insisted that Lanzini is not for sale, but they also said that about Dimitri Payet.

James Rodriguez rejected a move from Real Madrid to Chelsea in January, according to the Spanish paper Marca. The Blues apparently failed with a “last-minute” bid to sign the Colombian, although as it turned out they didn’t really need him. Even then, Marca says Chelsea will rival Manchester United for the midfielder’s signature this summer.

Wrestling

The Star claims United are trying to sign Gareth Bale as well as Rodriguez and are preparing a £128m “mega double swoop”, which sounds like some kind of wrestling move (but hopefully isn’t, because if you did a wrestling move on Bale he would probably be out injured for four months).

Manchester City are “favourites” to sign AC Milan’s teenage goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma, says the Mail. The 18-year-old would apparently cost about £30m, which is about half what he was reportedly valued at a few months ago. Maybe Milan feel sorry for Pep Guardiola because his other keeper is Claudio Bravo.

Elsewhere, Marouane Fellaini has held talks with Turkish side Trabzonspor as he enters the final year of his Man Utd contract (Star), Inter Milan are still trying to lure Antonio Conte from Chelsea by offering him lots of money (Gazzetta dello Sport) and Monaco have rejected a £68m bid for 18-year-old forward Kylian Mbappe from an unknown club (RMC Sport). Our money’s on either Tianjin Quanjian or Newcastle.
