HOT FOOTBALL TRANSFER GOSSIP: Man Utd ‘target £60m Kane’

It’s a scary time to be Manchester United manager. Not just because of all the little monsters banging on Louis van Gaal’s front door and demanding sweets or because Paul Scholes is haunting his dreams, but also because the Red Devils have had two home games already this week and not scored in either. LVG needs a superhero to get him out of this mess, and according to the Sun he’s found one: it’s Harry Kane.

The Tottenham and England pin-up had been going through a similar goal drought, but his hat-trick against Bournemouth means he is now worth “£50m-£60m” and is once again a target for United, according the Sun. Not that Spurs chairman Daniel Levy will sell him, unless LVG dresses up as a ghost and breaks into his room at night and tells him to, like that scene in Back to the Future.

Another big boy back in the gossip pages is Paul Pogba, whose agent has tipped him to be the subject of a summer auction involving some of the world’s best clubs. And Chelsea. The Express claims that the Blues will be competing with Barcelona, Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, Paris Saint-Germain and both Manchester clubs for the 22-year-old Frenchman, who will cost £72m.

Jose Mourinho, if he’s still around when the transfer window reopens, is also planning a January swoop for Shakhtar Donetsk’s Alex Teixeira, who has scored more goals this season than Robert Lewandoski. The Mail says Chelsea already have an offer “on the table” for the Brazilian, who has scored 16 goals in 11 games this season - from midfield.

There is less sexy news concerning Man Utd and Liverpool target Nicolas Gaitan, who the Star says is set to sign a new contract at Benfica. On the sexier side, the deal is set to include a release clause of £25m.

Arsenal’s mini injury crisis will prompt them to recall Serge Gnabry from his loan spell at West Brom, reports the Telegraph, although maybe it’s nothing to do with the injury crisis and more because has played just 12 minutes of league football since moving to the Hawthorns in August.

Liverpool target Dries Mertens is set to end speculation about his future by penning a new contract at Napoli, says the Mirror. And if that wasn’t bad enough, the same paper has also tipped Reds boss Jurgen Klopp to make a move for Dejan Lovren’s brother Davor. Two Lovrens stalking the corridors of Anfield. Sounds like something out of The Shining.
