Transfer Gossip: Manchester City set for £250m spree, Man United linked with Belotti, Barcelona target Spurs star

Could these stars be on the move this summer?

Premier League managers love a good war chest. It makes them feel powerful and sexy. And the gaffer who will be feeling most powerful, and most sexy, this summer is Pep Guardiola (even more powerful and sexy than Steve Agnew) because his war chest is the biggest of the lot.

The Sun on Sunday reports that Pep’s chest has been “activated” with funds of £250m, which he will use to buy four “key players” and “turn Manchester City into title favourites” next season. (They were already title favourites this season actually, but that was before Claudio Bravo turned up.)

The players in Pep’s sights are allegedly Arsenal’s Alexis Sanchez, Tottenham’s Kyle Walker and Southampton’s Virgil van Dijk, with either Manchester United’s Luke Shaw or Monaco’s Benjamin Mendy tipped to make up the key quartet.

Would that lot cost £250m? Not quite, which allows the Sunday Express to speculate that City will also splurge an unspecified “world record transfer fee” on French teen sensation Kylian Mbappe.

The problem is that Pep has now gone way over his £250m budget (surprisingly easy, isn’t it?), but it’s OK, because the Express adds that City will help fund the acquisition of Monaco star Mbappe by selling Sergio Aguero.

Jose Mourinho will also boast a nicely sized war chest this summer, and the Sunday People claims he will spend £84m of it on Torino striker Andrea Belotti. The “muscular frontman”, as the People coquettishly describes him, has apparently been on Manchester United’s radar all season, and their interest has “gone up a notch” since Zlatan Ibrahimovic injured his knee this week.

Barcelona are targeting Tottenham playmaker Christian Eriksen as part of their summer rebuild, says the Sunday Mirror. The Catalan giants have allegedly been “consistently scouting” the Dane since January and want him to “provide ammunition” for Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez and Neymar – the trio having been on something of goal drought this season with just 92 goals scored between them.

Everton are coming up with various methods to try to keep Romelu Lukaku at Goodison Park, with Toffees boss Ronald Koeman warning the Belgian that Man Utd wouldn’t give him Champions League football (Sunday Mirror) while simultaneously trying to scare off Chelsea by demanding Blues starlet Tammy Abraham in part exchange for the Premier League top scorer (Sun on Sunday).

Elsewhere, Real Madrid have cooled their interest in Chelsea goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois to0 focus all their efforts on signing David de Gea instead (Daily Star Sunday), Tottenham are plotting a summer swoop for Blackpool’s 19-year-old winger Bright Osayi-Samuel (Sun) and Arsenal are interested in £20m-rated RB Leipzig midfielder Emil Forsberg and £6m-rated Udinese midfielder Jakub Jankto (Mirror). Arsene Wenger’s war chest doesn’t sound especially powerful OR sexy.
