Hot Football Transfer Gossip: Man City ‘want Sanchez, Wilshere and Rose’

Pep Guardiola, he buys who he wants. The sharp suit, the stubbly head, the mesmerising football and the sackful of Champions League medals are a combo hard for any player to resist. The incoming Manchester City manager is accustomed to getting his way in the transfer market, which is worrying news for fans of Arsenal and Tottenham, according to today’s Hot Football Transfer Gossip.

The Sunday Mirror reports that Pep will show little respect for the league table by raiding the north London rivals for Alexis Sanchez, Jack Wilshere and Danny Rose - none of whom are for sale, but all of whom could become substantially richer by moving to the Etihad. Even more alluring than that, they would get to hang out with Pep.

City are apparently poised to offer £40m each for Wilshere and Sanchez. Both are entering the final two years of their contracts at the Emirates, with talks on new deals rumoured to have stalled. Although Gunners manager Arsene Wenger would rather re-watch United Kingdom’s Eurovision Song Contest entry than sell two key players to City, that didn’t stop him losing Emmanuel Adebayor, Samir Nasri, Gael Clichy and Bacary Sagna to the Mancunians in the past.

As for Tottenham left-back Rose, there is no reason for earth for Spurs to let him go, but the Mirror believes City will attempt to lure the 25-year-old with a regular starting place and the aforementioned opportunity to become substantially richer.

Arsenal fans will probably not be comforted to learn that they could use their Sanchez and Wilshere windfall to swoop for Swansea’s 32-year-old centre-back Ashley Williams. For £20m, no less. The Sunday Express says Wenger sees the Welshman as the “hard man” who with “toughen up” their defence. Wenger’s original defensive target was apparently Mats Hummels, but he’s evidently accepted that the Gunners can’t buy top players anymore.

Another of our great clubs being bullied by Arab financial muscle is poor little Manchester United, whose star man Anthony Martial is wanted by Paris Saint-Germain, says L'Equipe. In slightly happier news, the Daily Star Sunday says the Red Devils have been “offered” Real Madrid’s James Rodriguez for £60m in a “move that would rock the Premier League”, which is a matter of opinion.

Champions Leicester remain uninterested in getting involved in any of that £60m Real Madrid nonsense, with Claudio Ranieri instead eyeing a £15m move for Swansea’s Gylfi Sigurdsson (Sun on Sunday) and a £23m swoop for Sporting Lisbon striker Islam Slimani (Metro).

Elsewhere, Tottenham are lining up a £20m move for Basel’s teen sensation Breel Embolo (Sun), Neil Warnock could become the next Newcastle manager (People) and Christian Benteke wants to stay at Liverpool and fight for his place (Liverpool Echo). But then so did Andriy Voronin and Sean Dundee, probably.
