Hot football transfer gossip: Muller, Stones, Berahino, Biglia

It looks like Bastian Schweinsteiger has been sending some pretty awesome Snapchats to his former team-mates in Munich since arriving at Manchester United, because Bayern’s Thomas Muller now also reportedly wants to join the Louis van Gaal revolution.

The Sunday Express says United have already had a near-£60m bid for the German forward rejected this summer, but Muller has apparently “confided in friends” that he would like to join Schweinsteiger at Old Trafford.

How the news of Muller’s private conversations got back to the Sunday Express is not clear, although one can only assume that the journalist who wrote the story, John Richardson, moves in the same circles as Muller. Possibly they go to the same night clubs, or share a hairdresser in Munich, or have had a romantic fling. Who knows, but in any case it’s impressive contacts from the Express.

Another player who may have heard about Schweinsteiger’s Snapchats is Everton’s John Stones, who Chelsea are worried could move to United or Man City instead of joining them, says the Mail on Sunday.

If Schweinsteiger wants to be uber helpful, he should also start sending his best material to Lazio’s Lucas Biglia. The Argentine midfielder has been the subject of a £21.3m bid from United, claims the Metro.

Rumours of Saido Berahino’s move to Tottenham are gathering pace, with the Sun on Sunday reporting that Spurs have lodged a £20m bid for the West Brom frontman, although they may reduce it to £19m once they see the sitter he missed in the Baggies’ draw at Watford on Saturday.

The same tabloid claims that the Baggies, along with Everton and Stoke, are keen on signing Man Utd defender Jonny Evans, but not at the £12m the Red Devils are demanding.

Kevin de Bruyne was widely tipped to be a Man City player before today’s big match against Chelsea, and if that’s still the case he better get his skates on because it kicks off at 4pm. The Star on Sunday report, however, that the deal has been held up because Wolfsburg are demanding £50m for the Belgian.

Newcastle are set to continue bankrolling Steve McClaren’s glorious new era on Tyneside, according to the Sunday Mirror, who say the Magpies are ready to stump up £12m for Marseille winger Florian Thauvin. That would take Mike Ashley’s summer spending past £50m - Sports Direct must have sold a hell of a lot of reduced badminton rackets this summer.
