Hot Football Transfer Gossip: Real Madrid 'target Aguero', Bayern Munich 'want Dele', Mancini 'to replace Bilic at West Ham'

It’s a rather shocking fact that Premier League clubs recouped more money on players in the January transfer window than they actually spent on them.

It was not meant to be this way. Did Richard Keys and Andy Gray give their blood, sweat and tears to make this the greatest goddamn football league in the world just for the teams to fritter it all away like this? The hell they didn’t. But according to today’s papers, things are only going to get worse – because two of the top flight’s leading lights could also be on their way out this summer.

Sergio Aguero, Manchester City legend, all-round footballing superhuman and scorer of the most dramatic goal in Premier League history, has been usurped – almost overnight – by a teenage Jesus at the Etihad, and Real Madrid are ready to take advantage.

The Mirror reports that the Spanish giants, “long-time admirers” of the Argentine superstar since they tried and failed to sign him from rivals Atletico back in 2011, are ready to pounce and make him their number-one striker.

That tabloid suggests this could kick-start an intriguing “merry-go-round of strikers”, with Real offloading Karim Benzema and Alvaro Morata and placing them on a global carousel that would already include Antoine Griezmann, Paulo Dybala and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

And Carlton Cole, perhaps?

But this merry-go-round would just be a distraction from the very real problem we were discussing earlier about everyone leaving the Premier League. So let’s get back to that.

We’re still thinking about the merry-go-round of strikers though. It sounds so magical.

Sorry, this is serious. Dele All is going to Bayern Munich.

Apologies for breaking that to you so abruptly, but it’s true. At least it’s what the Times is reporting.

To be completely accurate, the Times isn’t strictly reporting that the Tottenham prodigy is going to Bayern, but that they want him to go there. Not the same thing, of course. But then again, the German giants do normally get what they want (although a few months ago they reportedly wanted Eric Dier and nothing much happened with that).

Another man who could be leaving the Premier League, although this would have slightly less impact on the brand, is Slaven Bilic.

The Mirror says Italian tactician Robert Mancini is ready to replace the under-pressure West Ham manager and was at the London Stadium to watch the Hammers’ 4-0 defeat by Man City on Wednesday. It’s unlikely he’ll want to join them anymore then.

One incentive for Mancini, however, could be the prospect of reuniting with his former City goalkeeper Joe Hart, who the Sun says will be West Ham’s top transfer target this summer and that are ready to spend £15m on him.

Elsewhere, Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is interested in Monaco’s teenage striker Kylian Mbappe – dubbed the “new Thierry Henry” (Standard), Man Utd midfielder Michael Carrick will be asked to take a pay cut to stay at Old Trafford (Sun) and Frank Lampard opted to retire rather than play one more season earning £450,000 a week at Chinese side Hebei China Fortune (Star). That’s how much money Frank has already.
