Iconic EFL manager on 'needing minders' in Reading and desire to manage the club

Iconic EFL manager Neil Warnock joked that he would 'need minders' when in Reading due to his love-hate relationship with Royals fans, but has stated his desire to manage the club.

75-year-old Warnock is among the most successful British managers of all time, earning eight promotions and taking charge of 1621 professional matches.

A controversial figure in Berkshire, the Yorkshireman has regularly clashed with the Royals over the past 30 years and has lost to the club more than any other team he has faced.

Most recently at Aberdeen earlier this season, his Huddersfield Town side stayed in the Championship at Reading's expense last season.

Despite his fiery nature down the years, in recent seasons the veteran has spoken of his admiration for the Royals.

Speaking about his new touring stage show, 'Are You With Me?' with EFL expert Benjamin Bloom, Warnock joked: "Reading have been foes of mine for many years. It’s a pity we’re not doing a show in Reading- I’d have had to have had a dozen minders around me."

Continuing more broadly on the club, Warnock added: "I’ve had some great banter with Reading fans over the last few years. I’ve always wanted to manage Reading so it’s a pity I’ve never had the opportunity. Since [Sir Jonh] Madejski was there I’ve always liked that club and I’ve had some great battles- they got 100 (106) points, and we came close when I was at Sheffield United."

Warnock has stated that he is officially retired from management now to focus on his show and 'bucket list.'
