"I'd like a refund": Northern Echo fans react to England v Slovenia match

England laboured to a goalless draw against Slovenia in their final group game of Euro 2024 but despite topping the group, The Northern Echo readers have expressed their disappointment and frustration.

They criticised Gareth Southgate's tactics, accusing the team of showing little passion, and some suggested changes in the squad for the upcoming matches.

Richard Dales Coupland highlighted the visible disappointment of fans who attended the tournament.

He said: "You've got to feel for the faithful who've invested money and considerable time into going to the tournament.

"They've been short changed for sure."

Marlene Noble said: "Need to play European football not pass pass walk it into the goal. Take a lead from the Lionesses."

Anth Tucker said: "According to everyone it's Trent Alexander-Arnold's fault.

"Well that's been the excuse for the first 2 games."

Some fans, like Roz Welsh, said: "Should send the ladies team over".

Emma Timmons shared her disdain for the recent matches, saying: "Again…. Been like it for all 3 matches… what a load of rubbish.

"Glad I didn’t pay for a ticket to go and watch them.. in-fact I’d like a refund from the tv licence."

Tony Robbins, on the other hand, took aim at Southgate's tactics, a topic that has divided fans over his tenure as national team boss.

He said: "The squad that started that game should not be the squad that starts the next game for us.

"We cannot play a passing game going from one wing to the other looking for gaps against a team who set their stall out to decent and catch us on the counter attack."

However, not all are pessimistic about England's future in the tournament.

John Farmer said: "The real England will turn up in the knockout stages!!!!"
