Pakistan cricketer Imad Wasim has claimed that his team will be one of the favorites to win the upcoming T20 World Cup considering they will be playing in the UAE which is basically their ‘home ground’. Pakistan is placed in a group with hot favorites India, New Zealand, Afghanistan, and two other qualifying teams.

The tournament will commence on October 17 with the qualifying rounds in Oman, following by the Super-12 stage in the UAE. Having played most of their games in the UAE in the past decade, Wasim feels they are well suited to the conditions and can claim the trophy.

UAE’s conditions will suit as it is like a home ground for us, having played there for a long period of time. This is why we are also considered as one of the favorites for the tournament.

We have skillful players who can take us deep in the championship so we will try to give our 100 percent on the field. We have two or three good series before that (T20 World Cup) and (we are) focused on winning that so that we head into the World Cup with rhythm and confidence,” he mentioned.

“I will continue playing domestic cricket and perform to the best of my ability” – Imad Wasim

A dip in form saw Imad Wasim lose out on a central contract with Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB). He expressed his disappointment but also said that he will make a strong comeback through the domestic ranks.

Losing the central contract was disappointing but ups and downs, with or without reason, are part and parcel of life. It was a difficult period for me and my family but the only way out of it is to perform well on the field and that is what I’m focused on doing.

I want to play ODI cricket and I told everyone about it too. I don’t know why I was dropped from the side. But that’s the decision of selectors, coaches, and captain and I have to accept it. Although, I will continue playing domestic cricket and perform to the best of my ability,” Wasim concluded.

Pakistan’s first match in the Super-12 stage will be against arch-rivals, India, at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on October 24.
