What Independent Spirit Awards 2024 Winners Wore: Ali Wong in Sequined Cong Tri Dress, Dominic Sessa in Saint Laurent Suit and More
Black and white hues have taken awards season by storm: look no further than the winners’ circle at the 2024 Independent Spirit Awards on Sunday in Los Angeles.
Monochrome hues had a big moment on the runways of Gucci, Chloé and Carven during the spring 2024 season, while pared-down palettes were popular among attendees at the recent Golden Globes and Screen Actors Guild Awards.

Ali Wong
Ali Wong, who won the award for Best Lead Performance in a New Scripted Series, opted for a Cong Tri maxidress featuring a ruffled collar and an open back. Her sequined frock came from the label’s spring 2024 collection. The “Beef” actress also added on Cast jewelry and Brandon Blackwood heels. Wong was assisted by Tara Swennen, who’s also known for styling Kristen Stewart.
Hairdresser Clayton Hawkins styled Wong’s dark tresses in a sleek bun, while makeup artist Daniel Martin gave her smokey eyeshadow and rosy blush.
Da’Vine Joy Randolph
“The Holdovers” star Da’Vine Joy Randolph scored the award for Best Supporting Performance. The actress opted for an all-maroon ensemble from Da Shoné By DaSh, which included a leather trench coat and plunging satin slip. Randolph accessorized with chunky gold earrings and metallic Steve Madden sandals.
Celine Song
Celine Song, who received the award for Best Director for “Past Lives,” wore a custom Thom Browne skirt suit featuring a double-breasted blazer and a patchwork pattern.
Dominic Sessa
Dominic Sessa took home the award for Best Breakthrough Performance. “The Holdovers” star suited up in a custom Saint Laurent ensemble, which consisted of a white peak lapel blazer and flared trousers, as well as a sheer black shirt. The actor also added on a pair of square-toe boots and an Omega watch. Sessa was styled by Warren Alfie Baker, who also counts Glen Powell, Matt Bomer and Regé-Jean Page as clients.
The Independent Spirit Awards, founded in 1984, celebrate the best films and performances in the independent film and television industry. The 39th annual ceremony, held in Los Angeles on Sunday, is hosted by comedian and former “Saturday Night Live” cast member Aidy Bryant. This year sees the introduction of a new category: Best Breakthrough Performance in a New Scripted Series.
