BCCI on Wednesday announced India’s squad for ICC T20 T20 World Cup 2021. Under skipper Virat Kohli, the 15-man squad comprise batsmen like Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul, Suryakumar Yadav, and Hardik Pandya. For wicket-keepers, Rishabh Pant and Ishan Kishan have been picked. Hardik Pandya and Ravindra Jadeja are the two all-rounders in the squad. For pacers, Jasprit Bumrah, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Mohammed Shami have made it into the squad.

The biggest and most exciting news for cricket fans was that MS Dhoni was selected as Team India‘s mentor during ICC T20 World Cup 2021 tournament. MS Dhoni, who lead India to title victory in the first-ever T20 World Cup in 2007, will be a big support for the team in the role of mentor.

Being a mentor, Dhoni must have also provided valuable opinions to BCCI for the selection of the squad. Here we talk about 3 selection decisions for the India squad which hint at MS Dhoni’s say.

3. Ravichandran Ashwin’s Inclusion

Ravichandran Ashwin’s inclusion into the India squad for ICC T20 World Cup 2021 was a little surprising thing. While Ashwin has been a regular member of India’s Test squad, he last played a T20I game for India in July 2017 against West Indies.

However, it looks like MS Dhoni might have opined for Ashwin’s inclusion. In the absence of injured Washington Sundar, Ravichandran Ashwin is the top contender for an off-spinner. Moreover, Ashwin has given a consistent show in the last few seasons of the Indian Premier League.

India squad for ICC T20 World Cup 2021 comprises a great spin bowling arsenal. Along with Ravichandran Ashwin, Axar Patel, Rahul Chahar, and Varun Chakravarthy are the other full-time spinners in the squad. Ravindra Jadeja is also a crucial spin bowler being an all-rounder.

The venue of the ICC T20 World Cup 2021 tournament is UAE and UAE grounds are more spin-friendly. Hence, the inclusion of more spinners in the squad is a very good decision and MS Dhoni might have a say in this.

Shreyas Iyer was selected as a reserve player in the squad while Ishant Kishan was selected in the squad. Shreyas Iyer is a far more experienced player than Ishan Kishan in the T20Is for India.

However, while Shreyas Iyer has not played an international or competitive game since March this year, Ishan Kishan played in IPL 2021 first leg and also played during Sri Lanka’s tour of India. Ishan Kishan also emerges as a secondary option for wicketkeeper-batsman in the squad.
