Former Indian batsman WV Raman feels there is a lot of pressure on Indian skipper Virat Kohli and compared the batsman’s woes to that of Sachin Tendulkar.

Kohli got his first half-century in the series in Leeds but soon departed to his same style of dismissal, playing the ball away from the body line and ended up poking the ball to lose his wicket. His all dismissals in the three games have been either caught by the wicket-keeper or in the slip region.

Virat Kohli is under pressure for scoring a century

Kohli is under tremendous pressure for not scoring an international century since November 2019 and his recent struggles are popping a lot of questions on his technique and body movement.

Virat Kohli did show shades of his old game in the last innings: WV Raman

Raman feels that Kohli should not take the responsibility of scoring the most runs and just perform his best in order to deliver up to his potential and also noted that he is getting into his shape after his last innings at Headingley where he scored 55.

“See we cannot really fault him. What can generally be the norm in life and other spheres might not apply in cricket always. I mean, what has happened is, there is a lot of pressure on Virat himself. We pay a lot of attention to everything he does. We know he is one of the best batsmen so we expect a lot from him. It’s similar to how it was with Sachin Tendulkar when he was playing. Even 95 was considered a failure,” Raman said in an interaction arranged by Sony.

“If I was Virat’s coach, I would tell him: “Virat, enough of this leading from the front. Just try and nudge the others from behind and get them to do what they can deliver. I’m sure you’ll be back at your best in no time”. He did show shades of his old game/fluency in the last innings. I’m sure he will definitely do well in the next two Test matches,” he added.

Kohli has scored 124 runs at an average of 24.8 from five innings against England in the ongoing series.
