Injury Bug Hits UFC Berlin, Uriah Hall and Steve Kennedy Save the Day

The UFC on Tuesday announced that Uriah Hall would step in at the last minute to replace an injured Derek Brunson at next week’s UFC Berlin.

Brunson had been slated to meet Polish fighter Krzysztof Jotko on June 20 at O2 World Berlin. Brunson, however, suffered a rib injury during training, forcing him out of the fight and leaving an opening for Hall.

Hall (10-5) is coming off of a split-decision loss to Rafael Natal just two-and-a-half weeks ago at UF 187. That loss ended a three-fight winning streak for Hall, who was the runner-up on The Ultimate Fighter 17. He’ll look to get back on track in Berlin.

Jotko’s (15-1) only blemish was a loss to Magnus Cedenblad in his second UFC effort. The fight with Hall will be his first since rebounding with a win over Tor Troéng last October.

Another last-minute change to next week’s card is Peter Sobotta vs. Sergio Moraes. A back injury suffered in training has forced Moraes out of the bout.

UFC officials continued to move swiftly, however, inking Aussie Steve Kennedy to step in for Moraes.

UFC Fight Night 69 is headlined by the first title defense of women’s strawweight champion Joanna Jedrzejczyk. She will put her belt on the line against Jessica Penne.
