IPL 2021: RCB Rope In Tim David And Dushmantha Chameera As Replacement Players For UAE Leg

Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) has announced Singaporean-Australian all-rounder Tim David and Sri Lankan pace bowler Dushmantha Chameera as replacement players for the second leg of the IPL 2021.

While David replaces Australian all-rounder Daniel Sams in a like-for-like replacement, Chameera on the other hand was signed in the place of New Zealand’s batting prodigy Finn Allen. The duo will boost the strength of the RCB line-up.

Allen was named in New Zealand’s squad for the tour of Bangladesh so he wasn’t available while the reason for Sams’ exclusion is likely down to the stressful bio-bubble that will be in place. Sams was also included as a reserve in Australia’s squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup.

Chameera was impressive in the recently concluded white-ball series against India. He is very much capable of generating pace over 140kmph, and can be a potent option with the new ball as well. Chameera snared four wickets in three T20I’s against India while conceding at just 5.25 rpo.

David is a relatively unknown product but has loads of experience having played in the various T20 leagues around the world. At just the age of 25, the all-rounder has played for Perth Scorchers in the Big Bash League (BBL), Lahore Qalandars in the Pakistan Super League (PSL), and Surrey in the T20 Vitality Blast.

RCB’s performance in the first leg of the IPL 2021

Following a covid-19 outbreak inside the bio-bubble, the IPL 2021 had to be postponed. Until then, RCB was enjoyed its best-ever start in the league. They won four out of four games at the start, having plugged up major holes in the playing XI.

The addition of Aussie batsman Glenn Maxwell has taken the pressure off skipper Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers so far. Also, the INR 15cr signing of Kiwi sensation Kyle Jamieson bolstered the lackluster bowling department. The sudden rise of Harshal Patel, who holds the purple cap with 17 wickets, has relieved a few headaches for the team management as well.

RCB has won five out of seven games so far, and are placed in the third position behind Chennai Super Kings (5 wins out of 7) and Delhi Capitals (6 wins out of 8). With the latest signing of David and Chameera, RCB’s campaign looks on track to go one step further than their previous best of reaching the finals.
