IPL 2021: RCB Sign George Garton As Kane Richardson’s Replacement For The 2nd Leg

Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) has signed England’s talented all-rounder George Garton as a replacement to unavailable Australian, Kane Richardson, for the upcoming second leg of the IPL 2021.

Garton hails from Brighton, Sussex and he represented England in the 2016 U-19 World Cup held in Bangladesh. He was also named as a cover during the 2017 Ashes series against Australia. Garton is considered a bright prospect in England’s domestic circuit and he will get a chance to display his skills in the IPL.

Garton’s signing comes on the back of three additions RCB had made already. Owing to the covid-19 pandemic, most of the Australian players pulled out of the IPL. This included RCB’s Adam Zampa, Kane Richardson, Daniel Sams, and KKR’s Pat Cummins.

RCB lacked a proper all-rounder in the side and Garton’s addition boosts the lower middle-order as well as the bowling attack. He was also the last overseas addition RCB is allowed for this season, after the franchise had roped in Wanindu Hasaranga, Dushmantha Chameera, and Tim David earlier.

RCB was on top of their game in the first leg of the IPL 2021 before the league got suspended. The unit gelled well together, delivering results with both the bat and ball. They sit on the third spot in the points table, with five wins out of seven. Speaking on their development, Hesson was happy with the new additions.

“We have made some changes to the squad pertaining to the situation. We have come a long way and have shown steady progress as a team. The additions couldn’t have come at a better time in the replacement window, as we aim to continue with the momentum, building on our performance from earlier this year,” he asserted.

The second leg resumes from September 19, and RCB’s first match after resumption will be against KKR.
