David Warner is likely to be released by Sunrisers Hyderabad ahead of the mega auction for IPL 2022. He has been the leading scorer for SRH and has also led them to the title in 2016. However, this season he was not in the best of form scoring 195 runs from 8 games and was benched for the majority of the UAE leg. This was his worst IPL season where he failed to get going. The management not trusting him with his abilities added onto the pressure which ultimately resulted in him being benched for the rest of the season.

The southpaw will be the target of a few franchisees who are looking for an attacking opening batsman. Almost all the teams should go all out for the left-hander who has scored 5449 runs from 150 games at an average of 41.59 and a strike rate touching 140.

On that note, we take a look at three franchises that can target David Warner in IPL 2022 Mega Auction.

Banglore over the years have invested in a lot of renowned overseas players. Thus it will not be a surprise if they are successful in buying Warner. Apart from Virat Kohli, the franchise is yet to decided on retaining other players. This is where the bigger picture of Warner comes in. He can open the batting along with Kohli which will be sight to behold. With age catching up AB De Villiers, the franchise will be wary of his fitness as well.

Rajasthan Royals

The Royals are another side who can look to rope in the southpaw. They have been inconsistent since winning the inaugural IPL title in 2008. David Warner’s inclusion will be a big boost for the franchise and the right step looking forward to forming a new core for the next three to five years.

The franchise has tried numerous combinations at the top of the order but it has not produced the results. Warner, a household name in T20 cricket can certainly solve their problems.

KKR might be another franchise that might look to get the services of Warner. Their openers had a shaky start in the first half of the season in India. However, in the second leg, the inclusion of Venkatesh Iyer has worked wonders for the team. Shubman Gill has found form and consistency in the UAE leg.

With a mega auction happening, KKR would release a lot of their Indian domestic players, there lies an opportunity to identify key overseas players around whom they can look to build the side for the next few years.
