Ireland will take on Zimbabwe in the third of the five-match T20 international on Wednesday at Bready Cricket Club Ground. The first two internationals were played at Clontarf Cricket Club. In the third T20 international, the action will shift to a new stadium.
Zimbabwe took the early lead in the series after winning the first game by 3 runs. They batted first and scored 117 runs in the first innings. Wicket-keeper Chakabva top-scored with 47 runs off 28 balls, including 4 fours and 1 six. However, there was little contribution from the other batsmen.
Craig Young and Simi Singh picked two wickets apiece, while Barry McCarthy and Getkate claimed one wicket apiece. Till that stage, Ireland were expected to win the game quite easily. However, Zimbabwe didn’t lose heart and bowled exceptionally well in the second innings.
In the second innings, Ireland made a cautious start in the first five overs. Paul Sterling got out in the sixth over of the innings after making 24 off 19. Wickets kept falling thereafter as Ireland batsmen felt guilty of giving their wickets away at crucial periods in the game.
Simi Singh scored an unbeaten 28 off 22 balls but Ireland, in the end, fell short of 3 runs to the target. For Zimbabwe, Masakadza and Luke Jongwe picked two wickets each. Ryan Burl picked 3 wickets for 22 runs in 4 overs.
Ireland made a roaring comeback in the second match. Zimbabwe, though, batted well and scored 152 runs in the first innings. The top-order batsmen were guilty of giving away crucial starts, however, Milton Shuma and Ryan Burl ensured the team gets to a competitive total after the first innings.
Shuma scored 46 off 27 balls, while Ryan Burl amassed 37 off 33 balls. Getkate was the pick of the bowlers for Ireland, picking 3 for 20 in 4 overs.
Ireland, in reply, chased down the total quite comfortably, thanks to a stellar opening partnership between K O’Brien and Paul Sterling. The former scored 60 runs off 41 balls, while Paul Sterling scored 37 off 29 balls. The duo set the tone for the run-chase and George Dockrell did the rest, scoring an unbeaten 33 off 26 later in the chase. Ryan Burl picked 2 for 24 in the second innings, however, the other bowlers had a forgettable outing.
