Island-born ace goalkeeper Simon Moore signs two-year deal for Sunderland

ISLE of Wight born goalkeeper Simon Moore has signed for Sunderland from Championship rivals Coventry City on an initial two-year deal.

Having spent three seasons with the Sky Blues, just missing out on promotion to the Premiership two seasons ago in the play-offs, Simon, replaces back up keeper Alex Bass, who joined Notts County.

The Black Cats have, on top of the top of the deal, included an option to sign Simon for another year.

The 34-year-old — and goalkeeping brother Stuart — attended Newchurch Primary School and Sandown High School.

His career has also seen him play in the Premier League with Sheffield United.

Simon was a regular in the  Blades team promoted as champions from League One to the Championship in 2017 — making it into the League One team of the season that year, after signing from Cardiff City for £580,000.

He also has extensive league experience with Brentford and Bristol City, the latter on loan.

Simon spent five years at Brading Town in the early part of his career.

Island-born Stuart, 29, who now plays for League Two side Morecambe, joining from Blackpool last year, has been a journeyman since he turned pro.

He has played for Reading, Luton, Barrow, Swindon, MK Dons and Doncaster, among his many clubs.
