ISU baseball ends Southern trip with DH sweep

Mar. 10—Indiana State finished its season-opening Southern road trip through three states by winning a doubleheader at Florida A&M in Tallahassee on Sunday.

The Sycamores (now 11-3) won by scores of 7-2 and 15-0 at Moore-Kettles Field. The host Rattlers fell to 5-11.

In the first game, Luke Hayden picked up the pitching win for ISU. Hayden threw five innings, allowing five hits, two earned runs and two walks. He struck out six Rattlers. Kyle Cortner and Simon Gregerson pitched the final two scoreless innings.

Luis Hernandez and Grant Magill had two RBI each for the Sycamores. Dominic Listi doubled for ISU.

Indiana State racked up 13 hits in the second game for a lopsided win. Brennyn Cutts pitched six innings for the win for ISU, struck out seven and walked none.

Mike Sears hit his first grand slam of the season and drove in a season-high six RBI. Hernandez went 4-for-4 with four runs scored. Nine ISU players hit safely. Joe Kido added a two-hit game for the Sycamores, while Jordan Austin doubled to highlight the ISU at-bats.

Coach Mitch Hannahs' team plays its home opener at 4 p.m. Tuesday against Illinois (5-9) at Bob Warn Field.
