It's fair to say Jürgen Klopp was cherished by Liverpool fans from the moment the German took charge of the club in October 2015. Klopp arrived at Liverpool after Brendan Rogers got sacked early into the 2015/16 campaign, and his impact was immediate.

Yet it wasn't just the fans that responded to Klopp, it was his players too. One of those was Adam Lallana. The midfielder had been at Liverpool for just over a year by the time Klopp arrived, but was finding it difficult to adjust to being a Reds' player.

Yet according to Lallana, Klopp changed his mentality very quickly.

Speaking to Sky Sports in a tribute to Klopp, the 36-year-old confessed that when he arrived at the club, he was “insecure, big time” and “didn’t feel comfortable in the dressing room, on the pitch [or] in the kit.” However that all changed as soon as Klopp arrived at the club, with the former Borussia Dortmund coach making an instant impact on Lallana.

“Straightaway he took that away,” Lallana said. Straightaway that big aura and that big smile just hit you.”

Upon learning of Lallana's insecurities in the video, Klopp was astonished, saying: “I didn’t know and I didn’t realise that Adam Lallana felt like he felt before I arrived.

“Obviously I was not there, but I loved the player from the first moment.”

Lallana went on to make some 178 appearances for Liverpool in his six-year stint at Anfield, scoring 22 goals in all competitions. Lallana left the club as a Champions League and Premier League winner. His form for Liverpool also seen him become an England regular, making the squad for Euro 2016. He earned a total of 36 caps for England.

After he left Liverpool in the summer of 2020, Lallana moved to Brighton, where he remained for four years, helping The Seagulls to remain in the Premier League. He left the club upon the expiration of his contract and has signed a one-year deal with newly-promoted Southampton, the club where Liverpool originally bought him from a decade ago.

Liverpool.com says: Lallana's words demonstrate how good Klopp's man-management was. Klopp has been known to inspire players, but it's nice to hear more examples of it. Lallana went on to have a very productive Liverpool career after an uneasy start, and Klopp no doubt played a big part in it.
