Jaguars announce signings of OG Norwell, WR Moncrief

The Jacksonville Jaguars announced the signing of free agent offensive guard Andrew Norwell on Thursday.

The deal is reportedly for five years and $66.5 million, including $30 million guaranteed, and makes Norwell the highest-paid guard in league history.

The Jaguars have also announced the signings of wide receiver Donte Moncrief, safeties Cody Davis and Don Carey III and tight end Niles Paul and re-signing of wide receiver Marqise Lee.

Norwell was a first-team All-Pro with the Carolina Panthers in 2017 and the preeminent blocker in the free-agent crop. According to Pro Football Focus, the 26-year-old was the only offensive lineman not to allow a QB hit or sack in 2017.

The addition of Norwell is a boon for a Jaguars offensive line that helped the team to an NFL-leading 141.4 rushing yards per game last season.

"I'm excited for everything," Norwell said, via the Jaguars' news release. "My strong suit is run power, zone power -- I can do it all. When they said they really want to run the ball, I couldn't be happier. I'm an old-school-type player. I bring energy and toughness every day to practice. I couldn't be happier to hear that from the coaches."

Norwell entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent and claimed the starting left guard spot for the Panthers in 2014.

Moncrief, 24, headlines the group of the Jaguars' other free-agent signings. His deal is for one year and is reportedly worth approximately $10 million -- ESPN reports the base salary is for $7 million with a maximum value of $9.6 million after incentives while Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports reports it is a $10 million deal with the chance to earn "millions more in incentives."

Moncrief was a third-round pick by the Indianapolis Colts in 2014 out of Ole Miss. After 96 catches and nine touchdowns in the first two seasons, his production dropped significantly due to injuries and the unavailability of quarterback Andrew Luck. Moncrief made 30 catches in nine games in 2016, then 26 receptions for 391 yards in 12 games last season.

"I have a chip on my shoulder," Moncrief said, via the team's news release. "I'm ready to come out here and compete and show these guys what I can do, get out there on the field and make plays for my team."
