James Maddison's three-word Tottenham response speaks volumes after Premier League update

Tottenham Hotpsur have sent a lighthearted apology to midfielder James Maddison after his three-word response to a post from the club on Instagram following the release of the Premier League fixtures.

Spurs discovered their fixtures for the 2024/25 Premier League season on Tuesday morning. They kick off the campaign with a trip to face Leicester City at the King Power Stadium on Monday, August 19 (8pm kickoff).

The game will see Maddison come up against his former club for the first time since joining Spurs last summer. The match will also see former Tottenham midfielder Harry Winks reunite with the club for the first time since making the opposite switch.

After finding out about the opening-day trip to Leicester, Spurs took to Instagram to share a recent memorable game at the King Power Stadium. In January 2022, Tottenham found themselves 2-1 down after Maddison scored for Leicester in the 76th minute.

The score stayed that way until the 95th minute, when Steven Bergwijn scored an equaliser. It then got even better for Spurs, as the Dutchman was on target again to snatch all three points in the 97th minute.

Spurs captioned the post with: “Run it back”. That prompted a response from Maddison in the comments section, with the midfielder writing, “No need admin.”

Spurs replied to the comment with a simple: “Sorry xx”. Bergwijn himself also responded by posting two eyes emojis in the comments section.

Maddison spent five years at Leicester after joining from Norwich City in 2018. He played 208 times for the club, scoring 55 times and providing 39 assists.

The midfielder will be looking to prove a point when the Premier League returns in August, having been cut from the England squad for the current Euro 2024 finals. Responding to the axe, Maddison said: “Devastated doesn’t quite cut it.

“(I)Trained well and worked hard all week but if I’m honest with myself, my form for Spurs when coming back from injury in the second half of the season probably wasn’t at the levels I had set which gave Gareth a decision to make. I still thought there would be a space for me in a 26 man squad as I feel I bring something different & had been a mainstay in this whole qualifying campaign for Euro 2024 in Germany but the manager has made the decision and I have to respect that. I’ll be back, I have no doubt.”
