Jack Wilshere has blasted Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher for his "biased" view Jurgen Klopp is a better manager than Arsene Wenger.

Klopp departed the Reds earlier this week after almost nine years in charge during which he won the club's sixth European Cup, a first championship in 30 years, a first-ever Club World Cup, along with the UEFA Super Cup, the FA Cup, two League Cups and the Community Shield.

Wenger won three league titles, seven FA Cups and seven Community Shields during 22 years at the helm at Arsenal, although trophy success outside England evaded the Frenchman with the Gunners.

That shortcoming was sufficient for Carragher to rank Klopp above Wenger in his all-time Premier League manager rankings.

“I would put him (Jurgen Klopp) above Wenger, with the only reason being the Champions League,” he said. “Arsenal didn’t quite crack that did they, but Klopp got to three finals, won it once, and I just think coming up against City and the points totals as well."

However, that view earned a strong rebuke from former Arsenal midfielder Wilshere - who played under Wenger with the Gunners for eight years - accusing Carragher of lacking respect for the 74-year-old.

“Klopp unbelievable how he transformed Liverpool but Arsene’s legacy in the Premier League is second to none,” said Wilshere. “Sorry Jamie but you are miles off it, please don’t be so biased and respect Arsene and what he done over a longer period, including leading the only team in the Premier League to be invincible.

“Everyone appreciates what Pep (Guardiola) has done and changed the way we see football in this country but don’t forget AW (Arsene Wenger) had a similar effect when he came in 96! You know that era better than me and witnessed it so let’s not forget that!”
