Nintendo's first-ever theme park area – Super Nintendo World – will officially open in Osaka, Japan next year.

Part of Universal Studios Japan, Super Nintendo World was set to open before the 2020 summer Olympics in Tokyo, but due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, both the theme park launch and the Games were postponed. It is now set to open in spring 2021.

Super Nintendo World will be a "life-size, living video game," according to Nintendo, which will have "state-of-the-art rides, interactive areas, shops and restaurants, all featuring Nintendo's most popular characters and games".

Using a form of smart band technology, which Nintendo is calling a "power up band", guests will be able to enter the park and access to all the rides.

This park pass will let you access all the various different rides and attractions at Super Nintendo World, while also syncing with your smartphone, allowing you to battle bosses and collect those classic, alluring Mario golden coins.

Nintendo has shared plenty of images of Super Nintendo World, including pictures of the "Mario Cafe and Store" that will actually be open from October 16 in Universal Studios Japan.

It seems like everything you can buy at the park will be Nintendo-branded - including the food.

You can even get some Mario and Luigi hat-themed T-shirts and cushions, and a super mushroom drink bottle to further prove your love of Nintendo.

Nintendo announced the news on its Japanese website (which is, naturally, in Japanese) – but you can take a look at it here.

At the moment, things are pretty heavily marketed towards Mario, which is to be expected, but the park will feature nearly every popular Nintendo creation.

That means you can probably expect to see some Legend of Zelda areas, as well as other famous franchises the company has spawned.

Super Nintendo World is a big move for Nintendo beyond its video games and there are plans to open more Super Nintendo areas in other Universal Studios locations across the world.

Super Nintendo World will officially open its doors in spring 2021.
