YouTuber Mark Goldbridge was left to eat his words after he went on a rant criticising Jarrod Bowen's introduction for England against Serbia – only for the West Ham forward to make an instant impact seconds after coming on.

During a live watchalong the YouTube star was left visibly angered and puzzled by Gareth Southgate's decision to bring on West Ham's Bowen to replace Bukayo Saka. England were toiling against Serbia in their opening group game of Euro 2024 and needed freshening up in the second half.

But the decision to opt for Bowen led to Goldbridge gesticulating wildly and looking utterly bemused. He almost spat out his drink after seeing Bowen's introduction before offering his personal take on the change, saying: "Jarrod Bowen, Jarrod Bowen! What the bloody hell, for Saka? Jarrod Bowen. What the f***."

However, within less than a minute of venting his frustrations over the switch, Goldbridge was forced to back-track as Bowen almost made an immediate impact. Just seconds after the West Ham star's introduction he had made in-roads down the right and swung in an inviting cross for Harry Kane who saw his powerful header tipped onto the bar by Serbia goalkeeper Predrag Rajkovic.

Despite Goldbridge's reservations, Bowen's impact could not be questioned with the 27-year-old almost immediately helping to double England's advantage on the night. The 45-year-old radio presenter was left to regret his words, however Goldbridge did hold his hands up and admit that the Hammers forward 'did well'.

"That actually would've been a great cross by Bowen," he said. "That would've been a very good goal actually. Did well, Bowen, put the cross in."

Prior to Bowen's impact, Goldbridge reeled off all the players he would have brought on ahead of Bowen and even offered Southgate some tactical acumen. "Nothing against Bowen but let me just go through the list of options we've got on the bench," he said.

"We've got Ollie Watkins, we've got Cole Palmer, for a start you could put Foden on the right and put Gordon on the left, Foden's played on the right for Man City."

Goldbridge, who runs several Manchester United focused YouTube channels, could not hide his bewilderment with Southgate's decision-making, claiming the England manager leaves him 'baffled'. He added: "I f*****g don't know with this guy (Southgate), I just don't know, he baffles me, absolutely baffles me."

Despite Goldbridge's doubt in Southgate, England began their Euro 2024 campaign with a 1-0 win over Serbia thanks to a first-half header from Jude Bellingham. In the other Group C game, Slovenia and Denmark drew 1-1 with Southgate's men due to face the Danes on Thursday, June 20 in Frankfurt.
