JHS soccer teams to open playoffs with home doubleheader

Mar. 20—The last week of March in Soccertown — a.k.a. Jacksonville — means one thing; that it's time for the Jacksonville Maiden and Tribe playoff journeys to begin.

Beginning at 6 p.m. Tuesday, March 26, the Jacksonville girls will open the Class 4A, Region II state playoffs by hosting Carthage at The Historic Tomato Bowl.

Jacksonville fans will also be able to see the Tribe begin its post-season run on the same evening, as the Jacksonville boys will take on Henderson at 8 p.m.

The Maidens (19-3-1), who are ranked No. 19 in the week's Texas Girls Coaches Association Class 4A poll, just completed an undefeated run through district (for the fourth-consecutive season) and will be representing District 16-4A as its first place squad.

Carthage will bring a respectable 15-6-2 worksheet to the post season.

The Tribe (19-4-1) will also be representing District 16-4A as league champion.

Henderson's Lions finished in fourth place in District 15-4A and will bring a 10-8-1 record into the match.

Both the Maiden and the Tribe rosters are loaded with seniors and each unit advanced to the regional tournament a year ago.

The Jacksonville girls have seven members who are playing their final season of high school soccer while a whopping 11 Tribesmen are scheduled to graduate in May.

Colten McCown and Rudy Jaramillo serve as head coaches for the Maidens and Tribe, respectively.
