Jim Goodwin reckons it's about time Dundee United beat Raith Rovers - with the Scottish Championship title chasing pair set to go head-to-head this weekend.

Dundee United were huge favourites to win the second tier following their relegation last season, but with six games remaining, Raith are only a point behind and have the opportunity to go top if they can maintain their unbeaten run against Goodwin’s men on Saturday - having won twice and drawn the other from their previous meetings this campaign.

Raith also have a game in hand versus Airdrieonians to come which creates an exciting season run-in. Goodwin isn’t too worried though, despite a stuttering run of three league wins from their last eight and believes United have enough quality to kickstart their title push with a win over Ian Murray’s Raith.

Previewing the blockbuster Tannadice clash, Goodwin said: “We’ll take a lot of confidence from previous performances against Raith.

“We feel as if we’re due to win one of these games, and no time like Saturday to go and do that.

“The players are well aware of what’s at stake. They’ve trained really well.

“It’s my job as manager to try and keep them nice and calm and preserve that energy for the Saturday.”

Goodwin knows what's at stake for his side over the next two months as he challenged the Dundee United squad to relish the opportunity to be competing for silverware.

He stated: "It’ll be one of the most attended games in the country. The players have got to relish those opportunities.

“We’re competing for a league, at the end of the day. There are plenty of players out there who have had good careers that have never won anything.

“I think that inspires people. There’s a number of different things out there that motivates us and it’s going to be a really important game for both clubs. Hopefully we do enough on the day to get all three points.”
