Joanna Jedrzejczyk Heading into Surgery, but Wants to Fight One More Time This Year
UFC women’s strawweight champion Joanna Jedrzejczyk (10-0) has been one of the most active fighters on the UFC roster. She’s competed five times in the last year and successfully took over the women’s 115-pound division.
The undefeated Polish fighter captured the title at UFC 185 by dismantling former champion Carla Esparza. Following her first title defense on June 20, a one-sided fight against former atomweight titleholder Jessica Penne, Jedrzejczyk said that she needed some time off.

“Now I must have some holiday because I did four fights in eleven months, hard months,” she said.
UFC Tonight reported on Wednesday night that Jedrzejczyk won't have a problem getting her bosses to sign off on the time off, as she suffered a broken thumb in her fight with Penne. She needs surgery on the thumb, and that will take place next week in Los Angeles.
Although the 27-year-old planned to scale back her fighting activity anyway, don’t expect her to be out of action for very long.
“I want to fight at the end of the year, maybe November or December. We’ll see, but I’d like to fight one more time this year,” she said during the UFC Fight Night 69 post-fight press conference. “Maybe not (fight) every three months, but every four.”
