Johanna Konta’s seven-match winning streak ended as she was beaten 3-6, 7-6, 6-2 by Karolina Muchova in the opening round of the Cincinnati Open.

The British No1 was in control in the first set with her forehand particularly potent.

But she wasted three break points early in the second and that allowed Muchova of the Czech Republic to get back into the contest.

The Australian Open semi-finalist, ranked No23 in the world, got stronger with her serve and saw out the match as she won in two hours and 27 minutes.

Konta, the world No41, had come into the tournament having won the Nottingham title in June before reaching the third round in Montreal last week but did not play that match due to a knee injury.

There was better news for Britain at the Chicago 125 tournament as Emma Raducanu beat top seed Alison van Uytvanck, the world No60 from Belgium, 7-6, 6-3.

Raducanu, who reached the fourth round on her Wimbledon debut, now faces former junior world No1 Clara Burel, of France.
