The John Lundstram Rangers transfer exit advice he got from ex-teammate

John Lundstram was able to get advice on moving to Turkey from Ridvan Yilmaz.

The former Rangers midfielder recently made the free transfer switch to Trabzonspor after running his contract down following three years at Ibrox. It's a first spell outside of the UK for the Englishman after coming through at Everton and then having stints at Oxford and Sheffield United.

So he was perhaps lucky that he counted a Turk as one of his teammates last season so he could glean some information from the left-back. Yilmaz told his pal how he could expect a warm welcome in his new country and that's exactly how it played out.

Lundstram said: "I spoke to Rıdvan Yılmaz and he told me how well everyone here would treat me. When I was in Trabzon, everyone I saw welcomed me warmly. Everyone here is very polite and kind. I hope to pay them back with my performances.

"When I was in talks with the club, my conversation with the manager left a big impression on me. We talked about both the city and the history of the club and the style he wanted me to play. It was a style I liked and it wasn't a hard decision to make after that. I think we have a very good squad here and I will try to contribute with my own quality to help the team.

"I was probably surprised by just how big Trabzonspor are. And I also wanted a new challenge for myself. My family are with me and that helps."
