Jon Jones Doping Violation Hearing Postponed

Jon Jones Suspended Following USADA Arbitration Hearing

Jon Jones‘ anti-doping case will not go before the Nevada Athletic Commission on Oct. 10 as planned.

Jones was pulled from the UFC 200 main event opposite Daniel Cormier three days prior to fight time in July. At that time, he and the UFC were notified by the United States Anti-Doping Agency that Jones was flagged for a potential anti-doping violation.

Jones and his camp held a hastily pulled together press conference, denying any intentional wrongdoing, but declined to discuss any specifics of the potential violation. They also requested to have Jones’ B Sample tested, the results of which, according to USADA, upheld the initial findings.

Nevada Deputy Attorney General Caroline Bateman, during preliminary actions at a prior commission meeting, named Hydroxy Clomiphene (an anti-estrogenic agent) and Letrozole metabolite (an aromatase inhibitor) as the two substances Jones tested positive for in his June 16 out-of-competition drug screen.

Jones had been expected to go before the commission on Oct. 10, but NAC executive director Bob Bennett confirmed to MMAWeekly.com a Fox Sports report that his case had been pushed back to November.

Although it's not clear what the outcome might be, UFC president Dana White, in an August interview with Jim Rome, seemed to indicate it was likely that Jones might be granted a reduced penalty, as it appeared he didn't knowingly take the identified substances.

“It’s coming back now that it looks like [Jones] did not take the supplement that everybody thought he took,” White said.

“It’s looking like Jon Jones did not take the drug everybody thought he took. It looks like it’s something else. I’ll let this thing play out and if that’s true and that’s what USADA and the Nevada State Athletic Commission say happened, it could look good for Jon Jones.”

In reviewing the Nevada commission's agenda for Oct. 10, it appears that Brock Lesnar and Nate Diaz, both of whom were expected to be addressed during the meeting, have requested continuances, which could push their cases back to a future meeting.

As of the time of publication, Conor McGregor remained on the agenda.

Lesnar is also facing anti-doping violation charges, while Diaz and McGregor are scheduled to go before the commission for their bottle-throwing fracas at a UFC 202 pre-figth press conference.
