Jose Cordoba looked set to become a Rangers player until it emerged last week that he was heading for Norwich instead.

The Light Blues had the Panama centre-back at Ibrox for VIP treatment as they took on Kilmarnock and were expected to complete a £3million swoop for the Levski Sofia star. Philippe Clement requires left footed centre half as he looks to rebuild his defence and full squad this summer, and Cordoba seemed to fit the bill.

However, the Canaries managed to steal in and it was reported last week they had won the race. It was believed money was likely to be a factor with the Championship side having been in the Premier League in recent years and perhaps flexing their muscles over the Scottish side.

But that doesn't necessarily seem to be the case. Bulgarian outlet TEMA Sport claim that the Light Blues were willing to spend the same on a transfer fee as Norwich but wanted to structure it with just £2m up front plus add-ons taking it to £3.2m. The Canaries are willing to give the whole amount up front.

The report adds that Cordoba will be paid around £7000 at Carrow Road which wouldn't have been out of Rangers' reach either. The Ibrox side must now turn their attentions elsewhere and have been linked with Argentinian Thomas Galdames and Arsenal's Reuell Walters.

The Light Blues today sealed their second summer transfer with Oscar Cortes returning on loan. Brazilian left-back Jefte became the first two weeks ago.
