Jose Mourinho has handed Everton takeover warning about prospective owner Dan Friedkin

Former Chelsea manager and current Fenerbahce boss Jose Mourinho has warned Everton that prospective new owner Dan Friedkin knows little about football.

Texas billionaire Friedkin purchased AS Roma in 2020 for a staggering fee of £591m in 2020. A year later, the businessman who has made his money in the car industry as well as in luxury hospitality, brought Mourinho in to kickstart his tenure.

The Portuguese lasted two and a half years in Serie A and became a fan favourite as he led the club to the Europa Conference League. However, opinion began to sour on the 61-year-old who was sacked earlier this year.

A month after departing the club, Mourinho opened up about the end of his time in Rome and took a firing shot at Friedkin in the process. "The European competitions are about to begin, in particular the Champions League, perhaps the world’s most important competition on the calendar," he said.

"I won’t be there at these final stages, not because I have already been eliminated, but because I was 'eliminated' by someone who knows little about football. That’s life, full of ups and downs, and I’m growing, despite the unexpected and unfair dismissal.

"But I will return, and with even more enthusiasm and confidence, for these UEFA matches." Friedkin is now interested in purchasing Everton and wishes to enter an exclusivity agreement with current owner Farhad Moshiri for his 94 per cent stake in the club.

Former Everton chief Keith Wyness has told the Liverpool Echo that the Toffees have now become an attractive proposition for potential owners after 777 Partners' Share Purchase Agreement expired. He claimed that the Blues are worth more than their current debts which could explain Friedkin's interest in the club.
