Josef Bursik a Hibs transfer target as Club Brugge keeper 'wants UK return'

Josef Bursik could become Hibs' new number one as the Easter Road men line up a swoop for the Clube Brugge keeper, according to reports.

The Hibees have Jojo Wollacott as their only senior goalkeeper following David Marshall's retirement and move into a non-playing role at the club. New manager David Gray has a lot of work to do to get his squad in working order for the season and a new shotstopper will be high on the list.

Bursik is available for transfer from the Belgian giants despite being under contract for another three years, as he reportedly wants to return to the UK. The 23-year-old moved out from Stoke in 2023 but has failed to make a single first team appearance. Wollacott has had a similarly small impact and Bursik is seen as someone who can challenge him.

The Englishman had over 50 Championship appearances with the Potters under his belt and prior to breaking into their team had a number of loans in the lower leagues, with Accrington Stanley and Doncaster Rovers among others. He was also previously an England under-21 international

Scott Parker made him his first signing after landing the Brugge job and the manager's sacking as well as a serious injury didn't help him settle. Bursik has fully recovered from the cruciate ligament damage and wants to get his career up and running again back in the UK.

Hibs return for pre-season training tomorrow, yet to announce their first summer signing and with a threadbare squad after a number of loanees and out of contract players moved on.
