Jurgen Klopp provides Jordan Henderson update after ‘painful’ injury worry for Liverpool star in win over Ajax

Jurgen Klopp hopes to have Jordan Henderson back soon after the Liverpool midfielder picked up a “painful” injury against Ajax.

In the 70th minute of Wednesday’s Champions League win in Amsterdam, Henderson suffered a blow to his knee that led to his early exit from the game.

“I think so,” he told reporters when asked if Henderson will shake off the injury.

“I was worried as well when I saw the situation because it was in front of me, but I think he thought he got knee on knee, so painful.

“A bruise, probably. Really painful but as far as I know now, nothing else and that should be fine.”

Liverpool booked their place in the last-16 of the Champions League in confident fashion, Henderson producing a fine outside-of-the-boot assist for Mohamed Salah to score the opener.

Darwin Nunez’s header made it two in the second half before Harvey Elliott rounded off the scoring.

“The most important thing, I would've been over the moon if we played here today 0-0 and get through because it's all about getting through and we did that with 3-0 and that's perfect,” said Reds boss Klopp.

“We scored wonderful goals, like really wonderful goals. The first goal, the overview of Hendo was exceptional. The second goal was a great cross and the whole situation how Darwin takes on pretty much everybody. And then Harvey crowns his really good performance with a sensational finish.

“So that's all, individually, very helpful and for the group as well, and that's why we are really happy for them.”
