Jurgen Klopp has sent a message to former Liverpool loanee Nuri Sahin as he follows in his managerial footsteps.

Klopp has been enjoying life away from football after stepping away from his role as Liverpool manager. The German announced his departure from Anfield earlier this year and officially left Merseyside following the conclusion of last season, where he has since been replaced by new head coach Arne Slot.

There has also been a managerial change at Klopp's other former club, Borussia Dortmund. After Edin Terzic's departure earlier this summer, the Bundesliga club have appointed Sahin as the club's new manager.

Sahin worked as Terzic's assistant before his predecessor's exit and was on the touchline for the Champions League final defeat to Real Madrid at Wembley Stadium in May. Now Dortmund have named Sahin as their new head coach on a three-year deal that runs until 2027.

Klopp took to Instagram to send a message to Sahin, who he coached during his time as Dortmund boss.

"Exactly 16 years ago was my first day at [Borussia Dortmund] and today you [Sahin] take the helm - wishing you much success my friend, it will be great," wrote Klopp on Instagram.

Sahin was signed by Liverpool on loan from Real Madrid in 2012 by former manager Brendan Rodgers. After just 12 appearances for the Reds, Sahin's loan spell lasted just six months before he returned to Madrid in January 2013.

Klopp coached Sahin during his time as Dortmund manager, with the former midfielder progressing through the club's academy. Sahin left Dortmund to join Madrid in 2011 but eventually returned to the German club when Klopp re-signed him three years later in 2014 for Klopp's final season as manager at Signal Iduna Park.
