Jurgen Klopp would've been furious with Liverpool's fixtures after 'criminal' move

Arne Slot is set to kick off his Liverpool managerial tenure with the dreaded 12:30 pm start (UK time), a time slot his predecessor famously slammed as a "crime".

As the Reds gear up to face newly-promoted Ipswich on the opening day, all eyes will be on the Dutchman as he embarks on a new era at Anfield after Klopp's nine-year reign. Klopp has never been one to hold back his disdain for early starts, having dubbed it the "breakfast slot" back in 2018.

By May 2024, Klopp's frustration with the Premier League scheduling reached a peak when he branded it "absolutely insane" during a press conference. He added: "I was actually waiting for Amnesty International to go to them.

"I would like to be part of that meeting when someone says: 'Liverpool 12:30' and the whole room is bursting into laughter. I had a discussion only the other day with colleagues from our favourite TV channel, which I will definitely not watch again, TNT."

Klopp went on to say that his verdict was simply "little advice from an old man on the way out". He added that Liverpool being asked to play "Thursday, Sunday, Wednesday, Saturday 12.30pm, is a crime".

Slot steps into the role following Klopp's departure announcement in January, officially taking the reins on June 1. "It is certainly not an easy decision to close the door behind you at a club where you have experienced so many wonderful moments and worked successfully with so many wonderful people," Slot said after leaving Feyenoord to take the Liverpool job.

"But as a sportsman, an opportunity to become a head coach in the Premier League, at one of the biggest clubs in the world, is difficult to ignore."
