Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp desperately tried to convince PSG superstar Kylian Mbappe to move to Anfield last summer.

According to reports in the French press, Klopp spent ‘several hours’ with Mbappe as the Reds attempted to secure a deal for the then Monaco man.

Mbappe eventually signed for PSG on a one-year loan deal that became permanent in the summer, but he was taken in by Liverpool’s charismatic manager.

L’Equipe say that Klopp’s ‘eloquence and enthusiasm’ was a hit with Mbappe and he liked what he heard, with the club willing to make him their joint-highest paid player.

Unfortunately for Klopp and the Reds, they could not match either PSG’s or Real Madrid’s monumental bids and their Mbappe dream was ruined.

But Liverpool fans will not be too disheartened, after all Mo Salah joined from Roma last summer and his first season didn’t go badly.

The Egyptian helped fire Liverpool to the Champions League final and netted 44 goals in 52 games in all competitions.

Now Klopp will be hoping he outshines Mbappe, the man who could have been lining up alongside him tonight.
