Jurgen Klopp's wife changed lives in a Merseyside town and never said a word about it

Jurgen Klopp has lived in Merseyside with wife Ulla Sandrock for almost nine years.

Klopp, 56, and Ulla Sandrock have lived in Steven Gerrard's former house in Formby since 2015. With the Reds boss stepping down as Liverpool manager this weekend, it seems likely he and his wife will soon leave the region.

But the couple has had a lasting impact on Formby, with Klopp regularly spotted at pubs and restaurants in the area. And he and his wife have also taken a big interest in local, grassroots football.

Klopp would often swing by Formby Community Football Club's (FCFC) kids' games when walking his dog, and was always only too happy to pose for selfies with the players. FCFC has an "army" of volunteers who, when lockdown put a stop to play back in 2020, began organising food and medicine deliveries, made phone calls to the isolated and even cut people's grass.

And Ulla made a "substantial" donation to the worthy cause back in 2020. FCFC founder Tina Hamilton said: "[That] money that helped us ramp up that support further.

"We passed the John Lewis Vouchers and the envelopes of money onto our volunteers, who were all touched. It gave them a boost whilst volunteering long hours.

"It made us feel valued and supported, and we heard so many lovely stories of the FCFC volunteers choosing to buy a lasting memento. The gesture really touched all volunteers and highlighted that, even during times of adversity, you never let us walk alone."

Tina went on to thank both Klopp and wife Ulla "from the bottom of our hearts", and said: "Please don't be strangers to Formby".

Ulla has never mentioned the donation, clearly not wanting any recognition. Around the same time, she also handed out £1,000 worth of food vouchers to staff at Waitrose in Formby as a "thank you" for working on the frontline.

The ECHO understands 20 separate £50 vouchers for the store were individually passed by the Liverpool manager's wife to those on the shop floor at the time.

One staff member said: "This was an incredible thing to do. Typically, Ulla didn't want to make a fuss, or receive any recognition, and just wanted people working in shops to get the recognition they deserve."

A spokesman for the store told the ECHO at the time: "Our Formby team is incredibly grateful for the support and understanding shown by everyone who has visited our store, but we would always respect the privacy of our customers."
