Owen Hargreaves and Danny Murphy have admitted Liverpool depict a team that has well and truly given up on their hopes of winning the Premier League title.

The Reds required a victory against West Ham United on Saturday afternoon having lost to Everton in midweek, though lost further ground on Arsenal and Manchester City in the race for first place after throwing away their lead late on to leave the London Stadium with only a point to their name.

Andy Robertson got Jurgen Klopp's side back on track after half-time to make the score 1-1, with Cody Gakpo seeing a shot deflect in off Angelo Ogbonna to put Liverpool ahead in the match soon after.

But there was a final twist to proceedings as Michail Antonio rose highest inside the Reds' penalty area to earn a share of the spoils for the Hammers.

It would now take something extraordinary for Liverpool to overtake Arsenal and City in their remaining three matches, ensuring Klopp's reign is set to end in disappointment. Reacting to the post-match moment that summed up Liverpool's failed title charge, Hargreaves told Premier League Productions: "Done and dusted. You just saw van Dijk hanging his head there, just annoyed, frustrated.

"I know he won’t be keen on farewells and goodbye but it’s nice to see all the [West Ham] players giving Klopp a hug. Disappointing for Liverpool, they should have won that game today. It’s been the last few weeks struggling to get it over the line.”

Former Liverpool midfielder Danny Murphy added: "I think the disappointing results of the last week or two have put them in a frame of mind. It felt before the game when we saw them walking in to the stadium, it didn't feel they had much belief left. The performance was a little like that, struggling in the final third to have conviction. Defensively? Really poor goals to concede."
