Bayer Leverkusen coach Peter Bosz says he does not expect Kai Havertz to return to training with the club as he closes in on a move to Chelsea.

Standard Sport understands that, following a lengthy saga lasting several weeks, big-spending Chelsea are hopeful of reaching a deal for the German midfielder that would involve an initial £70million fee plus further add-ons potentially worth in excess of £15m.

Havertz completed mandatory coronavirus tests with Leverkusen on Friday and Saturday, but was not present during pre-season fitness tests on Sunday and now joins up with the German national team ahead of Uefa Nations League matches against Spain and Switzerland.

And providing a latest update on the 21-year-old's future on Monday, Bosz admitted that he does not believe that either Havertz or Monaco-bound forward Kevin Volland will train with the Bundesliga side again ahead of their respective exits.

"Kevin Volland and the national players didn’t participate today in training today," he said at a press conference.

"Leon Bailey also wasn’t there. Unfortunately our squad isn’t set yet.

"I don’t expect Volland and Havertz to train with us again.

"It’s possible more players will transfer and we definitely still have to add some players."

Havertz would become ambitious Chelsea's sixth signing of a busy transfer window, with Hakim Ziyech, Timo Werner, Ben Chilwell, Thiago Silva and Malang Sarr all having joined already this summer, though the latter will be sent out on loan for the duration of the 2020-21 season.
