Kennedy excited by 'aggressive' Swindon's work in transfer market

Mark Kennedy said that Swindon Town’s recruitment is in a very positive place at this stage of pre-season.

Town have made six signings so far this summer as they rebuild the squad for new boss Kennedy, with players having arrived in all areas of the field.

Kennedy reflected on the business that Swindon have done so far this summer and he said that he believed that the work has been done so far has put the club in a good place.

He said: “I wouldn’t say that any [areas of the squad] in particular [need addressing], I would just say that we need a couple more bodies in, although I don’t want to give too much away, which is only fair.

“We are not finished but that doesn’t mean there are another ten players to come.

“It is so difficult signing players for multiple reasons but we would like to get a couple more in and if the right players present themselves then we will go for that. We are interested in good players.

“I am really pleased [with the business that has been done], we have been really aggressive with our signings and got them done quite early.

“I like to get things done quickly because it gives you more time to work, especially being a new coach with new principles and philosophy.

“That was very important for me and I think the club have been very proactive and that can only be a good thing.”

Pre-season begins this weekend against Swindon Supermarine when often there would be a tranche of trialists but Kennedy said not to expect that this time.

He said: “[Are you going to have many trialists?] Not really because we have quite a few players here already and I don’t like training with big numbers.

“I think you get trialists for different reasons and for where I am and where the club needs to be we need people who are more ready.

“Although we do have an outstanding young talent in the building at the moment who we are really excited about and has trained really well.

“I had an agent text me this morning about a big-name player who would be willing to come in on trial, but I don’t want him on trial.

“We are not too big to turn our noses up to anything, but don’t expect us to have ten trialists because that means we haven’t done our recruitment properly.”
