Key Middlesbrough departure is complete as new overseas club is confirmed

AARON DANKS has completed his exit from Middlesbrough, with Bayern Munich having confirmed his appointment as part of Vincent Kompany’s backroom team.

Danks has been appointed as one of Kompany’s assistants at the Allianz Arena, with Boro having accepted they could not keep him on Teesside.

Boro officials have held compensation discussions with the Bayern hierarchy over Danks’ departure, and are set to receive a significant sum for their former first-team coach.

Having developed a reputation as a bright young coach, Danks worked under Kompany when the new Bayern boss was in charge of Anderlecht.

He then returned to England to work on the coaching staff at Aston Villa under both Dean Smith and Steven Gerrard, and took caretaker charge of Villa for two matches in October 2022.

He moved to Boro two months later, working alongside Jonathan Woodgate as the two first-team coaches under Michael Carrick.

He will not be directly replaced within Boro’s backroom set-up, with the Teessiders instead having approached Newcastle United for permission to speak to their head coach’s brother, Graeme Carrick, who is currently employed as the head coach of the Magpies’ Under-18s team.
