Arsenal star Kieran Tierney has been told why he would be "welcome" back at Celtic this summer.

Tierney's future with the Gunners has been the subject of speculation in recent weeks following his loan spell in Spain. This summer will see Tierney return to Arsenal, though his future remains uncertain - particularly after picking up an apparent hamstring injury for Scotland at Euro 2024.

Scotland boss Steve Clarke has since ruled Tierney out of the final group game against Hungary and admitted the injury - which Tierney suffered against Switzerland under no contact - looks "pretty bad." A potentially serious injury which keeps Tierney out of action beyond the summer transfer window deadline could dent Arsenal's chances of selling the 27-year-old.

Tierney admitted earlier this year that he could leave the Emirates Stadium on a permanent basis in search of regular first-team football. It was back in 2019 that Tierney left Celtic to complete a £25million move to Arsenal.

Now a legend of the Scottish Premiership giants has explained why the left-back could return north of the border this summer. Tosh McKinlay, a former Celtic star and is currently a scout for the Scottish club, has explained why Tierney would be "welcome" back this summer were he to leave Arsenal.

"Kieran has done the business here and won a lot of trophies," McKinlay told the Daily Record. "He’s gone to England and then to Real Sociedad, so we will have to see what happens next.

"It will be entirely up to the manager and Kieran if he wants to come back. But he’s a cult hero here, so it would be great to have him back.

"I wouldn’t say he’s got unfinished business because he won it all first time round, lifted a lot of trophies, was involved in Trebles and an Invincible season. Kieran is a great player and it will be decided by him if he wants to come back or not."
